NOTICES FROM PAULINE

Rocky’s Plaice Children’s Holiday Club

We’ve had a great week with 20 children involved in the end!  Look out for the photos & Salt & Vinegar later!

Summer Holidays

Now the school summer holidays have begun Discoverer’s & Pathfinder’s leaders will be taking a well-earned rest.  During this time our services will serve all ages (whilst continuing our usual communion services/morning worship pattern) and will begin with an all-age talk & song and there will be crafts available for the children to do during the main talk & prayers.  The service will aim to be a bit shorter as well to allow the whole family to be part of our worship.  The sermon series during the summer holidays is based on ‘Postcards from...’ and will be looking at some of the events that happened in the places Paul visited on his Mediterranean journeys which are now holiday destinations.

Evening Services

This Sunday, 25th July in our series on some of the great Christian thinkers the service is focusing on Julian of Norwich.  Details of the upcoming services on the August Service plan on the notice board.

Find a name!

The work of the PCC in building a vision for the future of St Andrew’s of which the building project is just a part will be shared with the congregation in services during October.  However, we would like to find a name for the whole of the vision ahead of the launch which will encompass our desire to reach out into our community, to be a place of prayer, to use the building more during the week,  to grow spiritually & numerically, to extend the building to make all these things possible etc etc.....Please put your ideas into the basket on the entrance table.  Next Sunday is your final chance!  There will be a small prize for the winner!

Basics Course

This autumn there will be a new Basics Course using material called ‘START’. Running for just 6 weeks with each session lasting from 1 to 1 ½ hours, it is very accessible with DVD clips & free discussion of questions to do with all aspects of faith.  Do start to think who might be interested in being part of such a course.  Speak to Ray or Chris for more details.  It begins on Thursday October 14th at 7.30pm.

Invitation Weekend @ St Andrew’s

On Friday 24th September at 7.30pm, a meal & speaker, John Pantry on ‘Faith & the media’.  Tickets are now available from Pauline or Sue Gill or from the website www.alresfordchurch.net . (Tickets for numbers only – this is a free invitation! – though we hope that church members will be willing to pay for their tickets to cover the costs of the meal)

Then on Saturday morning 25th September  at 10.30pm, a Family Praise Party with the P@STA puppets, magic show, games & fun activities. Please book tickets as before.

Sunday 26th September is BACK TO CHURCH SUNDAY!  Special open invitation service at 11am with children’s activities over in the hall from part way through.

These are all about inviting those you know to come along & have a fun time & hear a very accessible gospel message.  Please think & pray about who YOU can invite to these events!

New People in Alresford

There seem to be a number of For Sale signs about (and not just those advertising the school fete!).  I’m looking for a number of people to watch out on their street (or a few round about) for new people moving in and then go round & welcome them in the name of the church with a Church Welcome card (I will supply!) and possibly a small gift?  Please sign up beside roads on the notice board if you would be willing to do this.  Still plenty of spaces!

Monday Prayer in Church

Because of people being away this will stop until Monday 6th September.  If you would like to come but the day or time doesn’t work for you – please let me know what would be possible.  Currently we’re thinking of just moving back to 7 – please let me know if this would mean you would be able to come.

ST GEORGE’S CHURCH BAGHDAD

St George’s Church Baghdad have written to us to say that thanks to generous donations received and the hard work of their congregation and significant help by the US government, the clinic, church and outbuildings are now completely restored after the bomb damage. They even have some money left over from the bomb damage repairs and we agree with them that they should transfer the balance left in their restoration fund to the St George’s Church fund to help fund the church and clinic over the summer. Canon Andrew White writes that the wonderful news is that the work of the church and the clinic continue to grow radically.

READING AND PRAYER ROTA

Recently there have been a few difficulties in which people down to do either the readings or prayers have not checked their rota resulting in gaps in the service when someone has needed to step in to cover during the service. Therefore I will be contacting people during the week to make sure this does not happen, so if you swap or have swapped, please can you also let me know. Many thanks.
